SHIP works with community partners like local libraries, senior centers, senior residences, and other groups who work with or have senior members. We share information about Medicare and related topics at scheduled events, in-person or virtual. Presentations can be tailored to meet your group’s needs.

Medicare: An Overview
During this 2-hour seminar, Montgomery County SHIP presents expert, unbiased information about your options before enrolling in Medicare. Learn about:

- Additional coverage options
We also talk about Medicare savings programs available to enrollees with limited income and resources, the SHIP services available to Montgomery County residents, and answer participants’ questions. Scheduled year-round.
- Protecting Yourself Against Medicare Fraud
Medicare fraud prevention starts with knowledge. During this 1-hour presentation, “Protecting Yourself Against Medicare Fraud,” Montgomery County SHIP/SMP offers updated information about recent scams, tips on how to protect yourself, steps to take if you suspect fraud or abuse. Scheduled year-round.
- Dual Eligibility: Medicaid and Medicare
This is a 90-minute presentation on qualifying for Medicaid and what benefits you are entitled to as a dual-eligible for Medicaid and Medicare. This presentation for people with disabilities and seniors with limited income and assets. Scheduled year-round.
- Medicare Advantage Plans (Open Enrollment: January 1–March 31)
This 1-hour presentation on Medicare Advantage plans compares the Medicare Advantage plans to Original Medicare, discusses extra benefits, and what you need to know before purchasing or switching to a Medicare Advantage plan. Scheduled December, January, February, and March.
- Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan Open Enrollment (October 15–December 7)
Medicare Part D plans change every year. Premiums change, medications are dropped or added. How do you know that your Part D plan is giving you the best value? Each year from October 15—December 7, you can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plan. Learn about Open Enrollment, how to compare plans, and what you need to be aware of during this 1-hour presentation. Scheduled August, September, and October*
